FOUR MOUNTAINS IN FUGUE
(Decrescendo and Crescendo)
Let me be like my Lord and Savior,
who ascending Mt. Tabor,
stood, sparkling,
knowing that everything from here on was
downhill to Jerusalem.
Fix my eyes, as I traverse
these hills and valleys,
on He who ascended to Golgotha
and, thereby
descending into the depths
will raise us, like him, again
to life.
For who can ascend the hill?
Fear not, oh thee of unclean hands
and impure heart, for the King of
Glory, clean and pure,
has ascended and
opened its gates so
we, too, can
ascend to the Father,
to one day
descend, sparkling
from
from Mt. Zion,
like a bride beautifully dressed for
her husband.
And I, too,
shall stand not far away—
to gaze, to long, or to mourn—
but—shimmering!—among
His conquering own.
