Three Mountains
by Noah Bartley
THREE MOUNTAINS
Sinai,
that mount
pregnant with glory.
A stutter-tongued shepherd
met eternity in mundanity. Moses
hid his flame-kissed
face that would
soon mirror
Majesty.
Carmel,
that mount
singed with God-
fire. A petrified prophet
set sights on Sinai. Elijah,
the Baal-Slayer, prayed
for his own
death, yet
transcended.
Tabor,
that mount
on whose peak
Maker and matter met,
and sin-dimmed eyes beheld
Uncreated Light. The mighty Logos lifted
the glass-thin veil, revealing Reality. Jesus,
the Father’s well-pleasing eternal Son,
even now sets his transfigured
face toward our own
darkness and bears
our dreadful
Jerusalems.
