Three Mountains

by Noah Bartley

THREE MOUNTAINS

Sinai,

that mount

pregnant with glory.

A stutter-tongued shepherd

met eternity in mundanity. Moses

hid his flame-kissed

face that would

soon mirror

Majesty.

Carmel,

that mount

singed with God-

fire. A petrified prophet

set sights on Sinai. Elijah

the Baal-Slayer prayed

for his own

death, yet

the Father’s well-pleasing eternal Son,

even now sets his transfigured

face toward our own

darkness and bears

our dreadful

Jerusalems.
