Beckoning and Other Photographs

Beckoning by Cheryl Eichman

General revelation is the theology of seeing God in the world around us—through art, people, reasoning, and nature, for example. Throughout seminary, no theological concept captured my mind the way general revelation did. That is not because this is the most important concept—because I don’t believe that it is. But the term and idea behind general revelation gave a name to a stirring in my soul that alluded me. With each summer breeze, dancing snowflake, or bloom of a wildflower, my soul stirred. And if I was able to sneak away to my Rocky Mountains, my soul all-out sang. Nature, and especially the mountains, speaks to me of the nature of God. In them, I see his strength, presence, wonder, and wisdom. When I rest in the Rockies, I feel as if I am laying my head against his heartbeat. And each picture I take, I capture his smile.
